TLDR Trichoscan is a reliable method for measuring hair growth and monitoring treatment effectiveness in hair loss.
The document reviewed the Trichoscan method, a diagnostic tool for assessing hair loss and treatment efficacy in androgenetic alopecia. It combines epiluminescence microscopy with digital image analysis to measure hair growth parameters. The method demonstrated high reliability with intraclass correlation of approximately 91% for the same operator and 97% for different operators. A study with 9 men showed significant increases in hair density and cumulative hair thickness after 3 and 6 months of treatment with 5% minoxidil. The document also highlighted the limitations of Trichoscan, such as the need for hair dye and clipping, but noted ongoing efforts to improve the technique. Trichoscan was praised for its independence from the investigator, minimal patient discomfort, and efficiency, and was suggested as a useful tool for monitoring treatment response and planning hair transplantation surgeries, despite the lack of specific data on the number of people involved in the trials.
