TLDR Minoxidil solution increases hair growth; Shampoo B best for dandruff; infliximab helps pemphigus vulgaris.
The TrichoScan method, which combines epiluminescence microscopy with automatic digital image analysis, was used to measure hair growth in 10 men with androgenetic alopecia who were treated with a 5% minoxidil topical solution for 6 months. The study found a statistically significant increase in total hair counts, cumulative hair thickness, and terminal hairs after treatment. The TrichoScan method is well-suited for clinical studies as an evaluation tool for all hair colors to compare placebo to active drugs or to compare the capacities of different hair-growth promoting substances. The study also compared the efficacy of three therapeutic shampoos for the treatment of dandruff and found that all three treatments significantly reduced dandruff at weeks two and four, with Shampoo B being the most effective. Finally, a case report was presented on the use of the TNF-alpha inhibitor infliximab in the management of severe pemphigus vulgaris, a rare autoimmune disease characterized by intraepidermal blisters. The patient improved dramatically after treatment with infliximab.
