TLDR A rare hair follicle tumor showed unusual high levels of mucin.
The document reported a case of a 54-year-old man with a trichofolliculoma, a benign hair follicle tumor, on his jaw, which exhibited unusual and abundant mucinosis. Typically, trichofolliculomas present as solitary papules with a central pore, but this case was notable for the excessive mucin, a component of the mesenchymal stroma, which is not commonly seen in such abundance. The mucin stained positively with colloidal iron, indicating its presence. This case highlighted the exaggerated mucin associated with the mesenchymal component of the trichofolliculoma, which is generally not as prominent. The findings suggested a unique presentation of trichofolliculoma with significant mucinosis, expanding the understanding of the tumor's histopathological features.
