TLDR The two lotions used day and night may be a good alternative to minoxidil for hair loss treatment with better cosmetic effects and tolerance.
The document presents findings from a study that evaluated the efficacy of two cosmetic lotions, one containing a 5α-reductase inhibitor for daytime use and another containing an angiogenic active ingredient for nighttime use, in comparison to 2% topical minoxidil for treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA). A total of 125 male and female subjects were divided into three groups: one using the separate day and night lotions (N/D), one using a mixture of both lotions (MIX), and one using minoxidil (M). Over a 12-month period, with 7 hair samplings taken at 2-month intervals, the study found statistically significant hair weight increases in all three groups from the first two months of application. The cosmetic lotions were preferred by subjects for their ease of application and penetration rate, and the N/D group showed the best hair effects. The cosmetic products had very good local tolerance, with only 2 patients withdrawing due to adverse events associated with minoxidil. The study concluded that the daily application of the two lotions may be a good alternative to counteract hair loss, with better cosmetic effects and local tolerance than 2% minoxidil. The study was fully sponsored by Institut de Recherche Pierre Fabre.
