TLDR Tinea capitis should be considered for scalp infections in infants.
A 7-month-old girl presented with a rare case of tinea capitis associated with a fungal ball, an unusual occurrence in healthy infants. Tinea capitis, typically affecting early school-aged children, can be misdiagnosed in infants and should be considered in cases of inflammatory hair loss across various age groups. This case highlights the importance of including tinea capitis in differential diagnoses for scalp infections in infants and toddlers. This is the first reported instance of a fungal ball in a healthy infant with tinea capitis.
