TLDR Many patients with lower urinary tract symptoms also have undiagnosed erectile dysfunction, which improves with treatment.
The study aimed to determine the prevalence of undiagnosed erectile dysfunction (ED) in 110 patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) treated with tamsulosin or tamsulosin + finasteride. It found that 63.8% of these patients had untreated ED. After appropriate diagnostic evaluations, 67.2% of these patients received suitable treatment, with 79.5% showing a positive response. The study also identified a clear correlation between the severity of LUTS and ED, and an increased incidence of ED in patients with risk factors.
