TLDR Improve chin and perioral scars with surgery, resurfacing, and other therapies, tailored to each patient.
This article discusses various techniques for treating scars in the chin and perioral region. The authors emphasize the importance of understanding the anatomy and function of the lips for optimal scar revision and reconstructive results. Scar revision surgery may be necessary for keloid scars or to improve the appearance of scars through reorientation, scar width reduction, or volume correction. Resurfacing can also be useful for improving contour irregularities. Adjunctive therapies such as silicone gel sheeting, hair transplantation, cosmetics, and micropigmentation can also be used to improve scar appearance. Scar treatment should be individualized based on patient and scar characteristics, and often requires multi-modality and serial therapy.
