TLDR Single-hair transplantation with a Choi hair transplanter effectively hides cleft lip scars in men.
In the 2007 study, researchers presented a method for camouflaging cleft lip scars in male patients using single-hair transplantation with a Choi hair transplanter. This technique was chosen for its ability to provide a more natural hair direction and higher graft survival rates compared to micrografts. The study involved three male adult patients who underwent the procedure, with the harvested hair grafts being implanted directly into the cleft lip scars without the need for stab incisions. The results showed good aesthetic outcomes, with the scars becoming inconspicuous due to the presence of hair. The method was found to be simple, with minimal additional scarring, and approximately 100 hair grafts were sufficient for camouflaging the cleft lip scar. The study concluded that single-hair transplantation using the Choi hair transplanter is an effective method for improving the appearance of cleft lip scars in male patients.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.
