Topical minoxidil used before and after hair transplantation surgery
January 1989
TLDR Using topical minoxidil before and after hair transplant surgery helps improve hair growth.
The study involved 16 patients with androgenetic alopecia who applied a 2% topical minoxidil solution to their bald scalps before and after hair transplantation surgery. The treatment began 4 weeks prior to surgery, paused for 3 weeks, and resumed for 3 months post-surgery. The results showed that approximately 71% of the 64 grafts continued to grow hair without the typical shedding that occurs 2-4 weeks after transplantation. This suggested that topical minoxidil could be a beneficial adjunct to improve the outcomes of hair transplant surgery.
