TLDR Topical minoxidil helped an 8-year-old boy with a genetic hair disorder grow hair.
An 8-year-old boy with congenital alopecia and long-standing hypotrichosis due to two heterozygous mutations in the DSP gene encoding desmoplakin was treated with off-label topical minoxidil 5% foam once daily. After 2 months, he experienced dramatic hair growth, and the results were sustained at 1 year. This case suggested that topical minoxidil could be effective in managing hair abnormalities associated with desmoplakin mutations.
