TLDR Melatonin helps hair growth in women with hair loss issues.
Topical melatonin, applied once daily for 6 months, was found to have a beneficial effect on hair growth in women with diffuse or androgenetic alopecia in a pilot study conducted in Germany. The study involved 40 women who were randomly assigned to receive either melatonin or a placebo. While the difference in hair growth rates between the two groups was not significant, subgroup analysis revealed a significant difference in hair growth rates between melatonin and placebo recipients for occipital trichograms in women with androgenetic alopecia and for frontal trichograms in those with diffuse alopecia.
