TLDR Topical immunomodulators are effective and safe for treating immune-related skin conditions.
Topical immunomodulators were identified as promising treatments for various immune-mediated skin conditions, including alopecia areata, due to their efficacy, ease of application, and safety compared to systemic treatments. They were suitable for long-term use without intensive monitoring. The article reviewed the mechanisms, indications, and side effects of these agents, excluding topical steroids, and discussed newer experimental agents. The research included a comprehensive MEDLINE search and a manual search for Indian articles, utilizing full articles or abstracts when necessary.
