TLDR Combining injections with lotion is more effective for hair regrowth in alopecia areata than using the lotion alone.
This randomized controlled trial compared the efficacy of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injection combined with topical betamethasone dipropionate lotion 0.05% versus the lotion alone in treating alopecia areata. Conducted with 100 patients who completed the study, the results showed that the combination treatment (Group A) led to significantly better hair regrowth, with 87% of patients achieving a high regrowth grade (S-IV, 76-100%) compared to only 32% in the group receiving the lotion with saline (Group B). The study concludes that the combination of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide and topical betamethasone dipropionate is more effective and safe for treating alopecia areata than the lotion alone.
