TLDR TRM21 helps control flavonoid production and root hair growth in Arabidopsis thaliana.
This study identifies TRM21 as a positive regulator of flavonoid biosynthesis at the translational level in Arabidopsis thaliana. A loss-of-function mutation in TRM21 resulted in root hair growth defects, stunted plant growth, and a significant reduction in flavonoid content. Despite unchanged transcription levels of flavonoid biosynthesis genes, there was a notable downregulation in their translation levels, as well as in genes related to root hair growth. These findings suggest that TRM21 plays a crucial role in regulating flavonoid production and root hair development by influencing the translation of specific genes.
