TLDR The document concludes that advanced methods show the presence of P. acnes in acne lesions but do not prove it causes acne.
The study investigated the presence and localization of Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) in acne lesions using advanced visualization techniques such as fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), immunofluorescent microscopy (IFM), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and routine histochemistry assays. The goal was to directly detect and co-localize P. acnes with inflammatory cells in acne lesions, addressing the limitations of previous culture-based studies. The findings aimed to provide more precise evidence of P. acnes involvement in acne by identifying its specific sites of colonization within the skin micro-environments.
