TLDR Microsponges delivery system is a safe, versatile method for controlled drug release in various treatments.
Microsponges delivery system (MDS) is a versatile and highly porous polymeric system that activates under specific conditions like temperature, rubbing, and pH. It offers numerous advantages, including controlled drug release, site-specific action, stability across a broad pH range, minimal irritation, cost-effectiveness, and improved patient compliance. MDS can be used in various dosage forms such as creams, gels, and lotions, making it suitable for treating topical disorders like acne, psoriasis, dandruff, eczema, scleroderma, hair loss, and skin cancer. Additionally, MDS is explored for oral, parenteral, and pulmonary drug delivery, as well as for colon targeting of drugs and genes. It is also widely used in sunscreens, cosmetics, and OTC products. MDS does not cause irritation, genotoxicity, immunogenicity, or cytotoxicity, making it a promising system for various therapeutic applications.
