The Effect of Coconut Oil on the Physical-Mechanical Property and the Micromolecular Structure of Human Hair
August 2022
TLDR Coconut oil helps protect and improve damaged hair.
This research investigated the impact of coconut oil on the physical-mechanical properties and micromolecular structure of human hair, using 12 hair samples (6 chemically treated and 6 untreated). Tests for maximum force, breaking force, maximum extension, and cuticle smoothness were conducted before and after coconut oil treatment. Results indicated that chemically treated hair showed cuticle damage, and coconut oil provided some protective benefits to the hair.
