TLDR Transglutaminase 2 may control sebocyte maturation and lipid metabolism.
The study investigated the role of Transglutaminase 2 (TGM2) in sebocyte maturation. TGM2 was found to be the most abundant isoform in sebaceous glands, with its expression significantly decreasing as cells transitioned from proliferation to lipid metabolism. Using CRISPR/Cas9 to create TGM2 knockout sebocytes, researchers observed decreased cell proliferation and increased lipid accumulation. These findings suggested that TGM2 might play a crucial role in sebocyte differentiation and act as a potential negative regulator of lipid metabolism.
