TLDR COVID-19 often causes hair loss, especially in women.
The study conducted at the Pakistan Air Force Hospital in Islamabad investigated the frequency of telogen effluvium, a type of hair loss, in 160 post-COVID-19 patients aged 14-60 years. The results showed that 28.8% of the patients experienced telogen effluvium, with varying degrees of severity: 17.4% mild, 45.7% moderate, 26.1% severe, and 10.8% very severe. The study found a significant association between telogen effluvium and the female gender, with females experiencing a higher frequency of hair loss compared to males. The findings suggest that telogen effluvium is a common consequence of COVID-19, particularly among women.
