TLDR COVID-19 may cause a common type of hair loss called telogen effluvium.
The study "Efluvio telógeno: uma sequela pos-COVID 19" is a systematic review that aimed to determine the prevalence of telogen effluvium (TE), a common form of hair loss, as a sequelae of COVID-19. The authors reviewed 7 articles, selected from an initial pool of 13, based on their relevance and the quality of their data. The majority of these studies documented high rates of TE following COVID-19. However, the authors noted that there are very limited epidemiological data on this disorder and called for further investigation, including a focus on observation time and patient severity classification, as well as expert findings, to standardize the cutaneous manifestations associated with COVID-19.
