TLDR COVID-19 can cause different skin issues, including rashes and hair loss.
In a study of 270 COVID-19 confirmed patients in Kuwait, 20 exhibited skin manifestations, with the most common being exanthematous maculopapular/papulovesicular rash (30%), purpuric "vasculitic" pattern (20%), and chilblain-like acral pattern (10%). The study highlighted that COVID-19 can cause acute telogen effluvium (hair loss) and may exacerbate pre-existing dermatoses. It also detailed specific cases, such as two instances of dry gangrene and one of erythema multiforme. The findings suggest that SARS-CoV-2 can lead to various skin manifestations, which are becoming more recognized. However, the study's scope was limited by a reduced number of COVID-19 cases due to a high vaccination rate in Kuwait, indicating a need for further research to fully understand the virus's effects on the skin.
