TLDR The best way to extract oil from Urtica dioica roots is by using corn oil, a 1:5 ratio of raw material to extract, extracting for 6 hours, and using the maceration method.
The research aimed to determine the best parameters for extracting oil (OE) from Urtica dioica roots, a plant known for its antiandrogenic properties beneficial in treating androgenic alopecia. Using gas capillary chromatography, the study identified 5 steroid compounds in sunflower oil and 10 in corn oil, with corn oil having a significantly higher β-sitosterol content (59.33%). The optimal extraction parameters were found to be using corn oil as the extractant, a raw material-extract ratio of 1:5, an extraction time of 6 hours, and the maceration method. The total plant sterol content in the OE was around 7880 mg/kg, with β-sitosterol amounting to 4638 mg/kg.
