TLDR Targeting inflammation can improve scalp and hair health.
The study investigates the role of specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs) in scalp health, focusing on inflammation-related conditions like dandruff and hair loss. An extract of Anetholea anisita, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, was tested in vitro on human follicle dermal papilla cells and in vivo in a shampoo formula on 40 dandruff sufferers with oily hair over 28 days. The results showed that Anetholea anisita exhibited strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, increasing SPMs like Lipoxin B4 and Resolvins D1 and D2, while reducing pro-inflammatory markers. This led to improved scalp barrier function, reduced dandruff, and enhanced hair brightness, suggesting that targeting inflammation resolution is a promising strategy for improving scalp and hair health.
