TLDR Both sutures and staplers are equally effective for hair transplant donor area closure, but staplers are faster and easier to use.
The study, involving 28 patients with androgenetic alopecia, compared the use of conventional suture material (prolene) and staplers for closing the donor wound area in hair transplants. After a six-month follow-up, it was found that both methods were equally effective in terms of scar formation, with average scar widths of 1.28 mm for prolene and 1.35 mm for staplers. Despite the similarity in cosmetic outcomes, staplers were noted to be more convenient, requiring less surgical skill and reducing procedure time, suggesting that staplers may be a more efficient option for donor area closure in hair transplant surgeries.
