Surgical Treatments of Leukodermas Other Than Vitiligo Vulgaris

TLDR Hair transplantation showed the most promise for repigmenting white hair, especially for eyebrows and eyelashes.
The document discussed surgical treatments for leukotrichia, a condition associated with vitiligo, which often indicates a more severe and treatment-resistant form of the disease. Traditional surgical methods like dermabrasion, suction blister grafting, and thin split-thickness skin grafts had limited and unpredictable success in repigmenting white hair. However, hair transplantation showed more promising results, particularly for eyebrows and eyelashes, though it was less effective for the scalp. Repigmentation of hair occurred later than skin repigmentation and was permanent for up to 5 years. The findings suggested that melanocytes migrate from the epidermis to hair follicles, but more research was needed to predict surgical outcomes for leukotrichia.
