TLDR Tetracycline successfully treated a Labrador's skin calcification and hair loss.
An 11-year-old Labrador retriever developed skin calcification and hair loss following treatment for arthrosis with various anti-inflammatory drugs and methylprednisolone. The dog exhibited dermatitis and nodular itchy tumors, which were initially treated with cephalexin and topical antimicrobials. Skin biopsies confirmed calcification, and subsequent treatment with oral tetracycline (500 mg twice daily for 2 months, then 500 mg daily for another 2 months) led to the resolution of itching within 2 weeks, dermatitis in 2-3 weeks, and disappearance of nodular tumors, with hair regrowth occurring approximately 3 months after completing tetracycline treatment.
