TLDR Hair transplant was successful on a bald area after skin graft surgery.
In 2017, a case study reported the successful use of follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant surgery for a 60-year-old man who had a bald area resulting from the resection of a malignant tumor on his scalp, followed by split-thickness skin grafting. Initially, a preliminary surgery with 100 grafts was performed to assess the viability of the grafts due to uncertain hemodynamics in the graft bed. After confirming successful engraftment of all 100 grafts, an additional 1330 grafts were transplanted into the remaining bald region. The outcome was satisfactory, with the patient pleased to no longer need a wig, and the donor site showing an inconspicuous scar. The study concluded that FUE is a minimally invasive and useful treatment modality for hair loss, including in cases with compromised blood flow in the graft bed, as long as careful attention is paid to the hemodynamics of the recipient site.
