This study used stumptailed macaques as a model for androgenetic alopecia and analyzed the effects of topical minoxidil on hair growth using the folliculogram method. The results showed that minoxidil increased the number of hair growth follicles and decreased the number of resting follicles, suggesting it may be an effective treatment for androgenetic alopecia in humans. The study also found that minoxidil treatment resulted in thicker and darker hair growth in bald areas without any negative effects on the skin.
