TLDR Most pregnant women experience common skin changes like linea nigra and stretch marks.
This study examined skin changes in 250 pregnant women at a tertiary care center in Puducherry. Physiological changes were most common, with linea nigra (84.4%) and striae distensae (78.4%) being the most prevalent. Pathological specific dermatoses like polymorphic eruption of pregnancy (1.2%) and atopic eruption of pregnancy (0.4%) were less common. Among pathological non-specific dermatoses, acne vulgaris (7.6%) and tinea corporis (8.4%) were frequently observed, while alopecia areata was rare (0.4%). The study found a significant association between pathological changes, gravida, and gestational age (p < 0.05).
