TLDR Oenocarpus bataua vegetable oil may help reduce hair loss by affecting a key gene pathway.
The study investigated the effects of Oenocarpus bataua vegetable oil on the JAK-STAT pathway, particularly focusing on STAT3 gene expression in keratinocytes. This pathway was known to be highly active in hair follicles of individuals with Alopecia Areata (AA), an autoimmune disease causing hair loss. The research found that the oil decreased STAT3 gene expression and protein levels, suggesting that it could modulate the JAK-STAT pathway and potentially promote or extend the anagen phase of hair growth, offering a possible mechanism for addressing hair loss associated with AA.
