TLDR Synthetic hair implants may pose health risks, including cancer, and require careful monitoring.
This document reports two new cases of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the scalp associated with synthetic hair implantation, adding to the three previously reported cases. Although a causal relationship between artificial hair implantation and SCC cannot be definitively established, the occurrence of these cases highlights the need for caution and further investigation into the long-term health risks of this procedure. The report emphasizes the importance of post-implantation follow-ups for early detection of serious health issues and suggests that healthcare practitioners should be vigilant when considering such procedures. Despite some studies suggesting the safety of synthetic hair implants, complications like infections and foreign body reactions remain concerns.
