Spearmint Herbal Tea Has Significant Anti-Androgen Effects in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: A Randomized Controlled Trial

    Paul Grant
TLDR Spearmint tea may reduce testosterone and self-reported hair growth in women with PCOS.
The study investigated the effects of spearmint herbal tea on androgen levels in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). It was a randomized controlled trial involving 42 women who consumed spearmint tea twice daily for 30 days. The results showed a significant reduction in free testosterone levels and an increase in luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels in the spearmint tea group compared to the placebo group. These findings suggested that spearmint tea had potential anti-androgenic properties, which could be beneficial for managing symptoms of PCOS.
