TLDR Early diagnosis and treatment of systemic-onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis are crucial for improvement.
This case report discusses a 5-year-old Sudanese boy with systemic-onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SoJIA) who presented with unusual symptoms, including tinea capitis, peripheral eosinophilia, fever, bilateral ankle arthritis, and extensive scalp lesions with hair loss. The diagnosis of SoJIA was confirmed through laboratory findings, and the patient showed significant improvement with a treatment regimen of antibiotics, systemic antifungals, corticosteroids, hydroxychloroquine, calcium, and vitamin D. The report emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of SoJIA and calls for further research into the role of eosinophils in tinea capitis and SoJIA.
