TLDR Patients with alopecia areata use social media for information but trust their doctors more.
The study involving 118 patients with alopecia areata (AA) found that 72.6% used social media (SM) to gather information about their condition, with Google, Instagram, and YouTube being the most popular platforms. Despite this, 96.5% of patients would trust their doctor's advice over SM in case of conflicting information. Additionally, 18.2% of patients attempted to contact their doctor via SM, primarily through doctor's websites, often to inquire about medications. The findings highlight the significant role of SM in patient education and the need for clinicians to maintain a presence on these platforms to ensure the dissemination of accurate information.
