TLDR Smoking increases the risk and severity of male pattern baldness.
This study investigates the link between smoking and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in adult males. Conducted over 6 months with 120 participants, it found that 70% had AGA. A significant association was identified between smoking and the presence of AGA (p < 0.0001), with current smokers showing more severe AGA than non-smokers (p = 0.017). The findings suggest that smoking is a modifiable risk factor for AGA, emphasizing the importance of quitting smoking early to potentially reduce the risk and severity of hair loss.
