TLDR It's unclear if COVID-19 vaccination causes SLE; more research is needed.
This document describes two cases of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) that were diagnosed shortly after COVID-19 vaccination. The first case involved a 14-year-old girl who developed symptoms such as giddiness, breathlessness, and proteinuria three weeks post-vaccination, and was diagnosed with mesangial proliferative lupus nephritis. The second case was a 17-year-old girl who experienced bilateral lower limb weakness and inflammatory myositis ten weeks post-vaccination. Both patients tested positive for ANA and had low complement levels. Despite these observations, the study concludes that it remains inconclusive whether the COVID-19 vaccination directly contributes to the onset of SLE, and calls for more research to establish any potential correlation.
