TLDR COVID-19 vaccines had more side effects and worse perception than flu vaccines in Korean lupus patients.
The CIVIL study compared the perception and safety profiles of COVID-19 and influenza vaccines in 207 Korean patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The study found that COVID-19 vaccines had a worse perception and higher adverse events (65.8%) compared to influenza vaccines (12.4%). Common adverse events for the COVID-19 vaccine included pain at the injection site, myalgia, fatigue, and menstrual irregularities, with 10.3% experiencing lupus flares. Despite these issues, only 4.4% required hospitalization. The study highlights the need for careful consideration of vaccine recommendations for SLE patients.
