TLDR A rare skin condition called Eruptive Vellus Hair Cyst can cause itchy papules on the face.
A 36-year-old female presented with multiple itchy, skin-colored papules on her face, diagnosed as a facial variant of Eruptive Vellus Hair Cyst (EVHC). This condition, first described in 1977, can be familial or sporadic and is characterized by mid-dermal cysts containing keratin and vellus hair shafts. EVHC typically manifests as asymptomatic papules, but can occasionally cause itching. Diagnosis is confirmed through histopathological examination. Treatment options include topical agents and surgical procedures, though spontaneous resolution occurs in about 25% of cases. The facial variant of EVHC is rare and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of facial papules.
