TLDR Most postmenopausal women experience skin and hair issues, so regular check-ups are important.
This study from a tertiary care center in South India examined 150 postmenopausal women aged 45-65 and found that 92% had at least one dermatological issue, with xerosis (78%), pigmentary changes (64%), and hair thinning (58%) being the most common. There was a significant correlation between the duration of menopause and the severity of hair and nail changes, particularly in women more than 10 years post-menopause. The study emphasized the importance of regular dermatologic screenings in menopausal clinics to enable early diagnosis and management, ultimately improving the quality of life for postmenopausal women.
