TLDR Higher self-esteem in men with androgenic alopecia leads to less shame and more openness.
The study assessed shame and self-esteem in 39 men with androgenic alopecia, aged 19 to 66. Participants rated the shamefulness of various diseases, with AIDS being the most shameful at 7.9 points. Androgenic alopecia was rated at 32% in comparison. The study found no significant correlation between the level of shame and its functions, but a significant negative correlation between self-esteem and two functions of shame. This indicated that higher self-esteem was associated with less hindrance in disclosing the truth and less impact on spontaneity.
