TLDR Men with both baldness and scalp psoriasis often don't have psoriasis on bald spots.
The study aimed to investigate the relationship between androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness) and the presence of psoriasis in the balding areas of the scalp. Out of 500 male patients with psoriasis surveyed, 97 (19.4%) responded, and 21 (21.6%) of these respondents reported having both scalp psoriasis and androgenic alopecia. Among these 21 patients, 14 (66.6%) reported no evidence of psoriasis in areas of balding, 2 (9%) had psoriasis only in balding areas, and 5 (23.8%) had psoriasis in both balding and nonbalding areas. The preliminary results suggest that men with both conditions are less likely to have psoriasis in areas where they are bald. However, the study had limitations such as a small sample size and low response rate, which could affect the validity of the findings. Further research with a larger sample size and additional data on patient characteristics is needed to better understand the relationship between androgenic alopecia and scalp psoriasis.
