TLDR A female dog with mixed male and female traits was treated successfully with surgery.
This case report described a 10-year-old female Chinese Crested dog with a disorder of sexual development due to XX/XY leukocyte chimerism and mixed cell testicular tumors. Despite having normal female external genitalia, the dog had male gonadal tissue, confirmed by a positive Anti-Mullerian Hormone test. Histopathology showed Sertoli cell hyperplasia and Leydig cell tumors, while cytogenetic analysis revealed a chimeric pattern in blood leukocytes. The disorder was attributed to a blood chimera with mixed chromosomal sex. The feminizing symptoms caused by hormonally active Sertoli cell tumors were resolved after gonadectomy, highlighting the importance of genetic evaluation and surgical intervention in such cases.
