TLDR Lower zinc levels are linked to more severe hair loss in alopecia areata.
This study evaluated serum zinc levels in 120 subjects, comprising 60 patients with alopecia areata (AA) and 60 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. The findings indicated that patients with AA had significantly lower serum zinc levels compared to the controls. Additionally, there was a significant inverse correlation between serum zinc levels and the severity of AA, suggesting that lower zinc levels were associated with more severe cases of the condition.
