TLDR Patients with Alopecia Areata have lower levels of zinc and biotin than healthy individuals.
The study "Evaluation of Serum Level of Zinc and Biotin in Patients with Alopecia Areata" conducted in 2020 involved 60 patients with Alopecia Areata (AA) and 60 healthy individuals as a control group. The research aimed to evaluate the serum levels of zinc and biotin in AA patients. The results showed significant differences in serum zinc and biotin levels between AA patients and the control group, with AA patients having lower levels of both. The study concluded that these lower levels of zinc and biotin might play a significant role in the pathogenesis of the disease, providing valuable insights for the development of new therapeutic strategies for AA patients.
