TLDR Mild changes in bone markers relate to TCM syndromes in CKD-MBD patients.
The study analyzed the relationship between serum bone metabolic markers and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes in 105 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 3 and 4-related mineral and bone disorder (MBD). It found that these patients commonly exhibited mild abnormalities in serum bone metabolic markers and TCM syndromes related to Yang deficiency in the Spleen and Kidney, Qi deficiency, and blood stasis. Specific abnormalities in markers like calcium, phosphonium, and parathyroid hormone were linked to symptoms such as hair loss, tooth shake, sexual dysfunction, and aches in the waist and knees. The study concluded that mild changes in serum bone metabolic markers were interdependently related to TCM syndromes and could serve as objective factors for TCM syndrome differentiation in CKD-MBD patients.
