TLDR Early phosphorus-calcium disorders in children with chronic kidney disease can lead to bone issues, highlighting the need for early bone density testing.
The study on 57 patients at the Omsk Children City Out-patient Hospital № 3 focused on early diagnosis of phosphorus-calcium exchange disorders in children with chronic renal disease before chronic kidney insufficiency developed. Common clinical signs included nail fragility, fatigue, hair loss, posture changes, and lower extremity pain, indicating osteopenia. Densitometry showed decreased bone mineral density in 23.8% of patients at one site and osteopenia in 42.9% at both the distal radius and midshaft tibia. These results suggested early-stage phosphorus-calcium exchange disorders, emphasizing the importance of ultrasonic osteodensitometry in the comprehensive examination of affected children.
