TLDR A rare ovarian cancer with a good outlook was found in a woman with unusual hair growth and abdominal symptoms.
In 2021, a study reported a rare case of Sertoliform Endometrioid Carcinoma (SEC) of the ovary in a 47-year-old premenopausal woman who presented with symptoms including rapid hirsutism, frontal hair loss, abdominal distension, and constipation for less than a year. The patient had a palpable mass in the lower abdomen, and imaging revealed a large mass related to the right ovary. Laboratory tests showed elevated testosterone levels but normal FSH, LH, SHBG, and DHEA-S levels. After undergoing a total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, a histopathological diagnosis of SEC was made based on the tumor's microscopic appearance and immunohistochemistry results, which were positive for epithelial markers but negative for inhibin. The study concluded that SEC is a rare, well-differentiated, low-grade malignancy with a good prognosis when confined to the ovary, and its recognition is important in virilizing patients.
