TLDR SEPA™ enhances the effectiveness of minoxidil in stimulating hair growth, working faster and better than Rogaine® TS, with no significant side effects.
In a study conducted 28 years ago on 40 adult female stumptail macaques, the penetration enhancer SEPA™ was found to significantly improve the efficacy of minoxidil in stimulating scalp hair growth. The groups treated with minoxidil-SEPA™ showed a marked increase in 16-week cumulative scalp hair weight compared to those treated with Rogaine® TS. SEPA™ also appeared to accelerate hair growth stimulation, with significant increases in hair weight observed at 4 weeks, earlier than with Rogaine® TS. Twice-per-day dosing did not produce greater hair weight than once-per-day administration with either minoxidil formulation. The SEPA™ formulation was well-tolerated, with no significant side effects observed. The study concluded that SEPA™ formulation of minoxidil promotes earlier and greater stimulation of scalp hair growth compared to Rogaine® TS.
