TLDR Sentinel lymph node mapping is safe and effective for early-stage ovarian cancer but isn't yet standard practice.
The literature review on sentinel lymph node detection in early-stage ovarian cancer found it to be a safe and effective method for reducing unnecessary lymph node dissections, with a low risk of missing involved lymph nodes. Most studies reported few cases of positive non-sentinel lymph nodes, and techniques like radiotracer, blue dye, and indocyanine green (ICG) injections were explored. Despite these promising findings, the procedure was not yet part of the standard therapeutic protocol, and further studies were needed to establish it as a common approach for early-stage ovarian cancer patients.
