TLDR Scurvy, caused by lack of vitamin C, can be mistaken for other conditions but improves with vitamin C supplements.
This case report described a 59-year-old man who was misdiagnosed with leukocytoclastic vasculitis but was actually suffering from scurvy, a condition caused by vitamin C deficiency. The patient exhibited symptoms such as perifollicular petechiae, a painful hematoma, and sacral osteopenia. His condition improved rapidly with vitamin C supplementation. The report also reviewed the biochemical basis, pathophysiology, clinical signs, radiologic features, and recommendations for diagnosing and treating scurvy.
